This Progressive Series is all about opening your mind in different way to approach your physical yoga practice. September will be Core Focus, October is all about Back Strength, and November will highlight Hip Power. Each of these regions plays an important role on how well our bodies move. When all three areas have a balance of strength and flexibility, they can work together creating more efficiency and resilience.
Our bodies help to enhance and enrich each moment to its fullest. It is our vehicle for awakening and is the physical platform for everything you accomplish in life. A regular yoga practice not only provides more flexibility, strength, and balance, but also enhances our mental clarity and sense of ease. A bigger component of these benefits comes from how your practice affects your nervous system. If the nervous system stays in constant stress mode, it’s hard for your muscles to relax and to hear the subtle cues of wisdom from your body.
Practice will start and end with meditation. The first portion of each class will provide time to explore range of movement, strength, and balance. From there, with the support of props and adaptations of the poses there will be time to take a restorative approach on creating flexibility in your body. Mental stillness and emotional balance are key to regulating the nervous system. Through movement, breath work and mental focus, steadiness can be cultivated and this can help bring a sense of ease into present moment experience, where the development of instinct and skills can be utilized to further increase health and well being.
Concepts that will be explored:
Functional Movement vs Yoga Postures = Constructive Work
Alignment Accessibility vs Image of Pose = Not moving past Range of Motion
Functional Movement Patterns vs Dysfunctional = Efficient Action
Productive Sensation vs Counter Productive = Receptive Engagement
Repetitive Intensity = Limited time that one's body can engage in those activities (e.g. dancers+gymnast)
Individual bodies need different alignment = Exploration of options and modifications
Mindfulness, Equanimity & Acceptance for what is (Sutra's) = Skillful work within the present moment
Learn how to wisely build strength and flexibility in a balanced way = Health & Well Being
